The Wire Launch Party

White Birds and Lemons

So, it wasn’t quite an exhibition, like I thought in my last post! Last night I was lucky enough to attend the launch party for the New Zealand blog site The Wire, held at one of Croydon’s studios on New North Road.

The Wire is a place for people to visit and read about the lives of interesting New Zealanders. The Wire represents a wide array of New Zealanders, from different industries and cultures, who share a vision for success within their fields. Click on their images to read about their daily lives, their interests and passions. Visit The Wire and stay in tune with New Zealand’s creative future. It features blogs by Heather Mansfield, Kate Elliott, Nicholas Abbott, Kathryn Wilson, Milan Borich, Kirsten Morell, Ant Timpson, Florence Noble, Paul Roper, Taika Waititi, Mala Brajkovic, Angela Bloomfield, Misery, Stephen Richardson, Bic Runga, Duncan Greive & Stevie Kaye, Liam Finn, Analiese Gregory, Karen Inderbitzen-Waller, Kylie McKenzie, Jonny Brugh, Rachel Davies, Noelle McCarthy, Chris Lorimer, Madeleine Sami, Crawley, Toaki Okano, Steve Abel, Martin Basher and Natasha Utting. That’s a big list!

I had a great time! They had DJ’s playing when we arrived, then one of the founders, Ben King gave a speech. It was quite obvious that he was nervous about speaking (I would be too!) which I thought was super cute. Kirsten Morell from Goldenhorse played a few songs (Ben is a member of Goldenhorse if you didn’t know), then White Birds and Lemons played a set. While playing their first song, the power went out! Luckily it was fixed after a few minutes of everyone standing around in the dark, and they were able to continue their set, after which there were more DJ’s.

They had great food and drinks, we were lucky enough to try new Jim Beam and sugar free cola premixes that aren’t available in stores yet, and the same with Eta’s new Stacks which are similar to Pringles. I was insanely happy about the food and drinks! They also had platters of sandwiches etc. as well as Steinlager Pure beer and some wine and 420 water (yum!). Unlike most exhibitions or launches, they had plenty of food and drinks and were in no danger of running out, in fact they were totally encouraging people to eat and drink more! And there is more — everyone got a goodie bag which contained a sticker and postcard, some Essenza Fair Trade organic coffee beans from Atomic coffee and some organic Maya Gold chocolate by Green & Blacks. I was so happy about this, that is one of my favourite chocolates and this morning I ground some of the beans and made coffee — I love the smell of freshly ground coffee beans!

So, it was a great night, I had such a good time and they put on an awesome launch! Many thanks to Carla for hooking me up!
